My Dear fellow Lions,
Warmest Lionistic Greeting,
A learned man is one who wants to know, not one who wants to show...Said .Lal Bahadur Shastri, the ex Prime minister of India.
Knowledge makes a man humble. They say when a tree is laden with fruits, it bows in humility. Pomp and show is definitely eye catching, but some persons like to do things without them. No wonder after couple of tremendous years, this year we experience humbleness in Leadership in form of Lion A Natraj at the helm of affairs. The simplicity got into meaningful action, the moment a greater challenge surfaced. I am talking of the recent devastating floods, fellow Lions.
The magnitude of the Devastatation the unprecedented floods left is immeasurable. As the stories of the flood ravaged village folks reach us, it leaves us dumb folded. The loss of property, livelihood and lives is immense and immeasurable. No matter what ever is done, still it could never bring back the lives lost. However as Lions Stand for Service in hours of crisis, for last about a century, they did not fail this time too. The earliest to reach the spots with relief materials were Lions. Stories are hundreds and Update is in no position to narrate and accommodate them all. Yet few Clubs like Lion club of Raichur woke up to the call of destiny, and set up an emergency relief centre, that catered for several weeks to come. Shahapur Lions took care of hundreds of villagers brought from submerged villages and left over at Shahpur (by the Administration unattended) for Three days.
The District officials led by Lion Malhotra the Ist VDG and DC- natural Calamities Lion Vishnu Saraf along with some senior lions sprung into action and collected funds for water tanks. Lions Clubs International sanctioned its emergency grant of 5,000/- US Dollars to all the effected Districts. IPDG Lion Sunil was given the Charge to monitor the Grant. The Cabinet and the Governor formed a Committee to raise funds to the tune of 30-40 lakhs to set up a permanent project under the chairman ship of Lion G Chenna Kishen Reddy PDG. More Grants from the International are expected once the project is finalized and the Project Report is submitted.
We expect you to be a part of this humanitarian effort. Your Club should be a part of this exercise, be it raising funds or be it execution of the project. Be part of this humanitarian effort.
The Issue is dedicated to the determined spirit Lions have exhibited in this hour of crises.
Perform your obligatory duty, because action is indeed better than inaction.”

My dear fellow Lions,
Nataraj Namasumanjali.
As I took over as District Governor, I had no idea that I would be facing during my tenure, a calamity of this magnitude in my own backyard, my own revenue District Mahaboobnagar. One has to move into the interiors, to have glimse of nature's fury. I had been moving into such areas all along during past few weeks and am witness to the pathetic situations in those areas.
As the flood receded and we moved on to these places, with trucks loaded with relief materials, we were left aghast at the sight that unfolded before us. A sea of humanity rushed to us with a hope that we would end all their sorrows. We did whatever we could but when the mighty government with all the resources to its command struggled to handle the emergency and continues so to handle the rehabilitation work, we have our own limitations. Though the limitations press upon us, yet I firmly believe that lions, with their “never let it die” spirit, would leave a permanent mark in days to come.
We are embarking upon a massive fundraising program. Our humble target is collecting of donation of 30 to 40 lakhs for a permanent project. With this corpus fund, we approach the International for their Grant. The project would be something in Crores for sure by the time it takes shape. Lion G Chenna Kishen Reddy, PDG is given the task of survey and finalization of the project. Lion R Sunil Kumar, IPDG is managing the liaison with International office for the Grants to the Project. He is also monitoring the emergency grant to all the effected Districts besides our District in Andhra and Karnataka states. With the active input from Lion Malhotra and Lion Ramesh babu, our VDGs, I am sure we would be in a position to deliver in time. Past Intl Director Lion Chiguripati gave 50,000/-, My home Club Palmoor gives 50,000/-, Achampet follows with another 51,000/- Mahaboobnagar adds a 25,000/-. This is only a humble beginning.
Several Clubs responded spontaneously, like Bhagyanagar, lake City, Narayanpet, Makthal Bheema, Nagarkurnool, Atmakur, Gadwal Diamond,Everest, Amangal, North, Ankith, jadcherla, Pancharatan, MBBR Pillalamarrie, Deccan, Shadnagar etc; besides Lion HS Rathi PDG and Ln Dr. Saibaba Gaoud and sister District 324C3, C6, C5 etc; Truck loads of relief materials collected by Lions were flagged off by the honorable Chief Minister K Roshaiah Garu to the effected villages and I had taken up the responsibility to personally visit the villages and distribute the Relief materials.
Lion SS Malhotra, VDG I continue to be a source of inspiration and is of great assistance to me besides Lion J Ramesh babu, VDG II. MERLOWQ team meets each month and interacts on regular basis. Lion M V Chary had worked hard on the District Directory and we could finally come out with the District Directory 2009-10. It is a well organized and printed Directory and my compliments to Lion Chary.
Teacher's day was well observed under the able leadership of Lion J Raghu. 85 teachers were honored. the program was grand success. All the credit goes to Lion J Raghu and his able team. Senior Citizens day is celebrated jointly with Dist 324C-6 and Senior Citizens Forum each year. This year too under the able ledership of Lion Prof. G Manohar Rao, we were able to organize a successful event. Several health check ups were done free for Senior Citizens besides sports and talent recognisions for them. I thank all the lions that made this program successful.
My compliments to Region Chairman Lion Narsimha Rao for successfully sponsoring Lions Club of Mahaboobnagar Pillalamarri in record time. My compliments to District Chairman Extentions Lion Manoj Kumar Purohit as well, who assisted in all the paper work that went into formation of the Club and proved a perfect liaison with the Lions Clubs International to get the charter in record time.
First Issue of LIONS UPDATE was released on time, thanks to the Efforts of the Chief Editor Lion Manoj Kumar Purohit. The UPDATE BLOG is also well appreciated all over.

Warm Lionistic Greetings.
My heart goes for the victims of the recent floods in our constitutional area. I had the opportunity to move in the area and take stock of the situations there. I took the initiative to mobiles some funds for some permanent relief to the victims along with DC Disaster management Lion Vishnu P Saraf and other senior Lions, collecting some Funds. We are thinking of providing water tanks in the effected areas for safe drinking water. The District is on an effort to raise funds for the Permanent settlement of some of the Flood Victims. Let us all strengthen the hands of District Governor Lion A Natraj. Our District is lacking on the front of membership to our sister Districts in the Multiple. Club leadership is requested to gear up and strive to retain the Club membership in toto.
MMR and Activities Reports are supposed to reach the District office in time. The District Administration is noticing that many Clubs are not taking this primary responsibility seriously. The Club President and Secretary should ensure timely submission of all these reports to the District Office at Lions bhawan and respective Region and Zone Chairmen.
District Dues and International Dues is any time a priority for a Club. While some Clubs show excellence on these fronts, some others for reasons better known to them keep waiting. Our Endeavour should be that our Club should take pride in making the Club clear its dues at the earliest.
Club Leadership should tone up their own leadership skills by participating in programs organized by the District. We are eager to help you. Merlow Team is ready to help you, only that you have to seek our help. Let us know as to what kind of help do u need and we shall try our best to provide the same.
Let us work for the Glory of our prestigious District.
Yours in Lionism,
Lion S S Malhotra

Dear Fellow Lions,
Warm Lionsitic Greetings.
As the year progresses, I hope the team of office bearers of each of the Club had settled firm in their saddles. Dear Club Leaders, please remember that this opportunity is with you only for few more months. You have to make your own dreams come true. I am sure the Club yearly plans must be in place by now.
No Plans succeed on their own, unless backed by a determined effort to succeed. Also it is necessary that the entire strength of the Club Members be invoked and involved. That is the essence of leadership.
Tough ones get going when the times are tough, they say. One such opportunity has knocked the doors of current Club Leadership this year in form of Devastating Flood and resultant challenges it throws open. As the District Gears up for a massive long range plan of a Permanent project for the Flood affected people, it is time that the Club Leadership gets in sync with the District and International effort.
I would appeal the Club Leadership to take up fundraising for this prestigious project, that would be ably led by PDG Lion G Chenna Kishen Reddy and his Team. Governor Lion Natraj has taken up Flood relief works as the first piority of his tenure and I will stand by him and his project all along.
Should any Club need any assistance from me, I am ready to help them out in any respect.
Yours in Lionism,
Lion J Ramesh Babu
Second Vice District Governor
Bachpan - Lions Child Development Centre
Lions Child Development Centre at Niloufer Hospital was built by District 324C-2 within the hospital premises. Project Administrator for the same is Lion A Vijay Kumar PDG. The Proposal came up during the fag end of his tenure and it took years for the land to be handed over for the project. Lion Vijay Kumar put in his best efforts to mobilize donors though, his tenure as Governor was over long back. He invested his own funds also in the project to get it completed. The project though commenced and was serving thousands of mentally challenged children that came up for treatment and physiotherapy at Niloufer hospital, was to be inaugurated by Honorable Chief Minister of AP Y S Rajashekhar Reddy on 15th August 2009.
In the mean while a plan to demolish an adjacent old building and construct a new Seven Storied building was proposed and accepted. Lions Building though in a corner of the land, was mandated to be demolished to leave a corridor all around the proposed building as per the Fire Safety norms.
The news was shocking and Lion A Vijay Kumar met the then Hon. CM and petitioned him on the matter on 2-7-2009. The CM was kind enough to understand the gravity of the situation and directed the Superintendent of the hospital in the matter. Ultimately it was on 11-8-2009 Dr. P Sudershan Reddy, Superintendent of Niloufer Hospital wrote a letter to the Hon CM offering a floor area equivalent to that in the existing building in the proposed new Building with same and better amenities for the mentally challenged children. (Letter Ref. is RC.No.A1P/NH/2009/902). Dr. Sudershan Reddy, Superintendent wrote to the CM
Quote… “ I also placed before them that the efforts made by the Lions Club to build Child Development Centre is laudable and we need their continued involvement and co operation in future rendering service to the “ At Risk” babies. As per the request made by Ln. A Vijay Kumar, during the discussion and also in his letter dated 02/07/2009 adressed to Honorable Chief Minister of A.P. we can accommodate, association activities in the coming New-Multi-Storied Building- 324C-2 Lions Child Development Centre with equal floor space and with good infrastructure and other opportunities such as naming “ 324C-2 Lions Child Development Centre” as requested by Ln. A Vijaya Kumar.”…. Unquote.
In this connection District Team led by Lion A Natraj, DG, Lion SS Malhotra VDG I Lion A Vijay Kumar PDG, Senior Lions Lion Manoj Kumar Purohit and Lion M V Chary visited the Hospital premises on 24th August 2009 at the invitation of the Superintendent. Some useful and healthy discussion took place. The need to protect the Project and apt reorganization of Lions Contribution in the project was stressed by the team upon the Superintendent. The team visited the Premises of the Lions Child Development Centre along with the Superintendent and took important photographs of the building.
Follow up is definitely needed in the matter right up to the new CM level till we get the appropriate space and recognition in the new and modern Building. Lion Vijay Kumar is committed to follow up the matter. The entire District is behind him in his efforts. All of us should be committed to see that project is appropriately shifted in the new premises and the contribution of Lions be befittingly recognized.

Dear Lion,
Warmest Lionistic Greetings,
Permit me to address to the Club Leadership, especially the President and the Secretaries.
MMR: Though some Clubs are quite regular in sending the MMRs, it is sorry to note that some others lag way behind the schedule.
Let me point out the basics;
Last date for submission of Manual MMR is 20th of each month. Last date for submission of WMMR is Last day of each month.
Take printout of the WMMR and send it to
1) Lions Bhawan, Secunderabad ( DG Copy)
2) Region Chairman
3) Zone Chairman
Activity Report of Each Month should be send to all the above referred Officers before the 7th of the succeeding month along with Activity Photographs, Press Clippings and certificates.
Though the basic duty of MMR and Activities Report is that of Secretary, yet it is the duty of the Club President to see that all the above referred Requirements are completed by their deadlines each month.
I only hope that all the Clubs do follow this routine in right earnest.
Yours in Commitment,
Lion P. Dhanunjaya Reddy
District Cabinet Secretary
Laxmi Sada Sumukhi
Dear Fellow Lions,
I hope the Clubs must have collected the fees from all the members by now. It is the primary duty of each member to pay his dues to the Club withut asking, each year in July itself. Some Clubs have very good practices of timely collections of Dues. The practice must be followed by all the Clubs.
The final line of cutoff for the renewal of Insurance is drawing near, we would be in no position to renew the insurance of such clubs that do not pay their District dues by then. I only hope that none of the Clubs would like to miss the chance. The Region and Zone Chairmen are following with the Clubs and I urge the Club Leadership to heed to their wise counseling.
An unprecedented fundraising program is being undertaken by the District this year for the Flood Effected persons. We are eyeing a fund of 20/30 Lakhs from our District. Sister Districts have committed large sums for this effort. Once the project is finalized, we expect a handsome fund from the International. The project would be in Crores, while it takes shape. I expect contribution form each of the lion of the District and the Clubs. Clubs like my home Club Mahaboobnagar palmoor, Mahaboobnagar, Achampet, Bhagyanagar have announced handsome donations to the project. Undoubtedly lot more will join by the time we get moving further.
International Policy on Club Dues:
A Lions Club will be Automatically Suspended if it has an outstanding balance of more than US $1,000 or US $20 per member; whichever is less, over 150 days old.
This should amply clear the necessity that all Club Dues should be paid the moment the Bill arrives. So dear Presidents and Treasurers, get geared up and pay the dues immediately, if not paid by now.
Your's in Lionism,
Lion Bhooma Nageswara Rao
District Cabinet Treasurer

Can a Club President attend District Cabinet Meeting?
NO. District Cabinet meeting is a closed door meeting of only duly appointed Cabinet members. Any Lion who is not a Cabinet Member can not be part of it. Apart from Cabinet Members, Past Governors attend the specific Cabinet meetings only, where upon any specific assignment, they have to report to the Cabinet.
Is it necessary to Address the Dignitories on the Dias?
Only the Club President and the Principal Speaker ( Mostly the District Governor, Region Chairperson in a Region Conference ) is expected to address the dignitaries seated on the dais by name.
NO OTHER PERSON, who ever he might be, including the Club Secretary and persons rendering Flag invocations/ Introductions/ Felicitations etc are supposed to address all those on the dais individually.
Sweetest of all would be like “ Lion President, Lion Dignitaries on the Dais Fellow Lions, Lion Ladies and Guests”. Why should each speaker waste the valuable time of attendees in just reciting names after names? Neither the attendees appreciate it nor does the Protocol warrant it. Do we need to be told this and snubbed rudely in the public to stop this bad habit or are we wise enough to grasp the right things even without being told?.... Ponder Over and tell others too….

Update pays rich tributes to Past Governor Lion Seshagiri Rao, upon his sudden and sad demise on 10th August 2009. Rao family is a family close to all of us and all the family members are Lions. Lion Sheshagiri Rao was a renowned philanthropist and had supported many Projects of different Lions Clubs. He sponsored several Bus Stands, Water Tanks and other permanent projects. He contributed to most of the Lions Hospitals and schools that were build in last couple of decades. Lion Rao was an Ambassador of Goodwill Awardee.
His Contribution to LCIF is unparallel. He became the Lead Donor besides being a PMJF and highest donor to LCIF from our State and amongst the select highest in World. He wore his Diamond pins with pride and saw to it that each lion takes pride in wearing Lions lapel Pin.
We are with Sita Bhabhi, Lion Vasu, Lion Vijaylaxmi and other family Members in this hour of sadness. May God be with them and bless them the courage to face the void created by Lion Sheshagiri Rao's demise. May God bestow peace upon the soul of Lion Sheshagiri Rao.
Lion Shanteshwar Sajjansetty, who was a Charter Member of Lions Club of Shahapur passed away on 18th September 2009 in a road accident. Update pays its tributes to a soul that brought the light of Lionism to Shahpur Town.
